What do these stats tell us? Well, not an awful lot. It does look, though, as if Nix, Colbeck and Rhodes scored more often than our other wide player last year Omar Daley. It also looks like the players who came into the side throughout the season improved the squad. Topp and Moncur only played six games each and it’s hard to tell how reliable a pattern you have from so few data points, but the ratio of points per game for the two are above the average points tally for last season. Starosta, Bullock and Loach also seemed to appear in winning games more frequently than other players did. Peter Thorne’s lack of fitness at the start of the season cost us points I’m sure – his ratio of 1.5 points per game is good and his goalscoring record of 1 in 2 would compare favourably with most strikers. We also seemed to pick up more points when Colbeck, Penford and Clarke were given their chances to stake claims for first team spots ahead of underperformers such as Omar Daley, Eddie Johnson and Paul Evans in midfield and Mark Bower in the centre of defence. To be fair to Daley and Bower, they did seem to me to be putting in improved performances by the end of the season and Eddie Johnson even managed to bag a couple of goals in back-to-back games near the end. Paul Evans, thankfully, disappeared and wasn’t given another chance.

For anyone who can’t read this table of stats, there is a PDF of the player-stats available.

Well let’s hope Topp and Thorne start next season up front then!
